Opening of public consultation

The European Commission has started a review process of the Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012that defines the process of standardisation of the European standardisation bodies.

The main stakeholders interested in this consultation include businesses, including SMEs, small mid-cap companies and start-ups; civil society; organizations representing environmental, consumer and workers’ interests; academia; public authorities; and the wider expert community.

Public Consultation Questionnaire

The process of reviewing the Regulation within the European Commission is structured into several stages:

• On 23 June 2025, the European Commission launched the Call for Evidence for the impact assessment of Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012. This phase concluded on 21 July 2025;
• The review process has now entered its second phase, namely the Public Consultation, which is being conducted through a questionnaire to be completed and submitted via the European Commission’s dedicated platform by 17 December 2025.
• The next steps in the process at European Commission level will involve the preparation of a report by the European Commission, followed by a further feedback-gathering phase prior to the adoption of the final text, which will then be submitted to the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
