In order to meet the needs of its stakeholders for updates on rapidly evolving emerging issues, CEI has established a method of collaboration between experts, which complements the CEI Technical Committees and Subcommittees: the Steering Table (in Italian, TdC – Tavoli di Confronto).
With its wider perspective, the CEI Steering Table aims to facilitate the exchange of information between different parties in order to identify the standardization needs of a specific sector.
The Steering Table, which has no standardization development tasks, has a direct link with the CEI Technical Committees responsible for developing standards, together with international standardization bodies (IEC and CENELEC), institutions and the main associations in the sector.
The Steering Table is attended by experts appointed by CEI members, representatives of the various Technical Committees, institutions and associations.
The first Steering Table created within CEI concerns “E-Mobility” and aims to coordinate the various players involved in electric mobility to identify the different regulatory needs.
In particular, this Forum is linked to the following CEI Technical Committees:
The CEI “E-Mobility” Discussion Forum also guarantees links with:
The “Cybersecurity” Steering Table brings together various stakeholders around the topic of cybersecurity with the aim of analyzing common and specific pre-regulatory needs in different areas of application.
The purpose of any cybersecurity strategy is to protect as many resources as possible, especially the most important ones. Cybersecurity is a key issue in an increasingly interconnected world, where digital transformation has an impact on the daily activities of citizens and businesses.
As horizontal issue, cybersecurity standardization is structured on multiple levels. The joint ISO/IEC JTC1 Technical Committee has developed the ISO/IEC 27000 series of standards for information technology (IT) systems, while the IEC 65 Technical Committee (TC 65) has published IEC 62443 for technologies operating in industrial and critical infrastructures, including power systems and plants, water management systems, healthcare, and transportation systems. These horizontal standards, also known as “basic standards,” are technology-independent and can be applied in many technical areas. In addition to these, vertical standards are developed to meet specific technical requirements, for example in the energy, manufacturing, healthcare, or maritime sectors.
Various Technical Committees and SubCommittees prepare international standards that protect specific domains and keep industry and infrastructure resources secure. In particular, “Cybersecurity” Steering Table is linked to the following CEI Technical Committees:

The Steering Table 3 deals with Energy Transition as a fundamental aspect of the more general “Ecological Transition” aimed at drastically reducing the use of fossil fuels (from coal to natural gas), which until now have been the main source of electricity, heating for buildings, and fuel for transport systems and industrial processes. The related CO2 emissions are responsible for climate change, and therefore progressive reduction targets are being set, with the aim of reaching zero emissions (EU 2050 Plan, COP26, etc.).
The Energy Transition is a general theme that can be broken down into more specific ‘decarbonisation’ targets through the electrification of uses (electric vehicles, heat pumps, induction cooking, etc.) and improving energy efficiency, alongside the fundamental development of renewable energy production systems (RES), Smart Grids, storage systems, energy services markets (demand flexibility, ancillary services, energy communities, etc.), the hydrogen supply chain, and for the safe integration of RES into the electricity system, which will also be more integrated with other energy systems/carriers.
In the context of constantly growing demand for electricity, the Steering Table analyzes the latest trends affecting the sector to identify needs and propose the development of regulatory documents, including cross-cutting ones, to support the sustainability of electrical systems.
The Steering Table is mainly linked to the following CEI Technical Committees:
In addition, the Steering Table aims to establish structured links with:
The “Digital Transition” Steering Table aims to identify regulatory needs on the topic of digital transition, which involves a wide range of sectors, analyzing the latest trends and developments.
In the context of the growing spread of information and telecommunications technologies that make processes more effective and efficient in all possible fields of application, Steering Table 4 follows both basic technological development aspects and the most innovative fields, particularly in the following areas: Communications technologies and architecture; Artificial Intelligence (AI); Internet of Things (IoT); Fiber optic transmission; Sensors; Cybersecurity.
In addition, Steering Table 4 supports the development of cross-cutting regulatory documents, such as those for electrical infrastructure in the context of the digitization of public administration.
The Steering Table interfaces with the following CEI Technical Committees:
