Standards

UNDERSTANDING THE RULES

A standard is an agreed system that allows you to create something in a coherent and repeatable way. In particular, the standards establish the minimum requirements in terms of safety, reliability, efficiencyand trust of a specific device, plant, appliance, apparatus or component.

Technical standardisation is based on the principle of consensus which requires the involvement and the active participation in the works of all the stakeholders interested in the process. A standard project was created to respond to specific needs expressed by the market to have shared references at a national, European or international level.

THE MEANING OF A CEI STANDARD

The CEI Standards constitute a unique and well-coded tool to meet the mandatory requirements set forth by national and European legislation.

Standards provide requirements, testing methods, rules or definitions which are then used to design, manufacture, install, test and certify products and systems.

The CEI Standards, implemented both nationally and internationally, reflect the global consensus and technical competence of numerous expertsdelegated by the national Technical Committees competent in the field of the topics covered.

The CEI standards are essential for quality and risk assessment; they help researchers and designers understand the value of innovation by allowing manufacturers to buildquality products with consistent performance.

The European Standards, although on a voluntary basis, if specifically mentioned in the Official Journal of the European Union confer the presumption of conformity of the products with the essential requirements of the EU Directives. Based on the consent of national or European experts, they also form the basis for the tests for the purpose of obtaining the certification issued by a third-party certification body.

THE ADVANTAGES OF APPLYING THE STANDARDS

The Standards guarantee the safety, reliability and performanceof electrical and electronic devices and systems, including information technology.

STATES ARE MORE AND MORE INTERDEPENDENT

Products have an increasinglyglobal significance as they are manufactured, assembled and sold in countries around the world. They provide the basis for compliance testing and allow electrical and electronic devicesto be exported to most markets worldwide.

ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES ARISING FROM THE USE OF THE STANDARDS

The use of harmonized and internationally agreed standards contribute to obtaining further advantages such as:

PROMOTE FAIR COMPETITION BY REDUCING TRADE BARRIERS
The adoption of harmonized standards allow the industry to more easily sell its products in many countries around the world.

IMPROVE PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY AND REDUCE COSTS
The Standards simplify the quality control of services and components along the entire supply and production chain, thus also reducing execution costs.

PROVIDE INTEGRATED INTEROPERABILITY
The harmonized standards guarantee that products can function and interact correctly with other products (interoperability)

SERVING AS A BASIS FOR ‘CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT’ AND CERTIFICATION
The harmonized standards serve as a basis for the ‘Conformity assessment’and certification by proposing, among others, tests to verify the safety, performance, efficiency and reliability of a given product, component, system.

ENSURE SAFETY
The Standards help protect people, infrastructure and the environment.

PROMOTE INNOVATION
The Standards help avoid isolated solutions that can hinder market growth.

OFFERING SOLUTIONS
The Standards reflect the global consensus on cutting-edge solutions that can be applied by the public and private sectors in both developing and developing countries.
