The preparation and publication of technical standards in the electrotechnical and electronic fields is performed at international level by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and European by CENELEC (Comité Européen de Normalisation Electrotechnique), and for the European telecommunications sector by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute).
The technical standardisation activities are carried out, at international level, following the indications deriving from the WTO (World Trade Organization) Agreement about the elaboration of normative documents on the basis of “consensus” and, at European level, according to the requirements of the EU Directives, in particular those stemming from the New Approach procedure.

* ITU: Intergovernative body whose recommendations are taken into consideration by Governments for regulatory purposes.
The CEI is the Italian member of the aforementioned international and European standardization bodies, and it is responsible for expressing the national position in these venues at the various stages of drafting normative documents, which, to a large extent, are adopted as CEI Standards. This fact implies the direct and active participation of CEI in the different technical and governance bodies of these organisations through the involvement of its national experts.
Participating in the activity of the CEI Technical Bodies also allows you to contribute to the preparation of the IEC, CENELEC, ETSI normative documents from the earliest stages of their development, with the possibility therefore of affecting the contents and protecting national interests.
