Does the rate/extent of flame spread influence the outcome/severity of the incident?

It is necessary to analyse the flame propagation of the product under test and then evaluate its impact in one or more realistic scenarios. If the phenomenon of flame propagation is crucial for the fire development, the conditions favouring it must be characterized together with tests allowing simulating the propagation. Normally a component producing a large flame and able to quickly consume the fuel, dispersing drops of material on fire around it, has a greater impact. Persistent but very low flames combined with materials that tend to form large carbonizations on the flame front propagate with increasing difficulty.
